My story

Life is not happening in a straight line

My life is a story of self-discovery and self-development. A story of facing demons from the past. A story of overcoming limiting beliefs.

The biggest turning point was in October 2013. After a weekend with friends in Barcelona, it was Sunday evening, and I was standing in line to board a RyanAir flight back home to Belgium. While I was patiently waiting my turn, I only had one thought: "I don't want to go back to that job." The sheer thought of me driving to the office the next day was inconceivable. I felt sick to my stomach. It was time I made an intervention.

2024 marks the 10th anniversary of me quitting a seemingly comfortable corporate job where I made it to Director level. Having worked in different business units and locations, having grown from a process engineer in a Pampers factory to a seasoned project manager and supply chain expert, I learned a lot about what it takes to run a successful operation and make projects succeed.

However, when taking a closer look, I started to sense a loss of motivation and purpose in the last couple of years. Something was missing, the spark was gone. Unfortunately, instead of fixing what did not work, I kept on going, plowing through all red lights, not looking for help, because that is what I was doing my whole life until then. With the result that I was gradually burning out.

Fast forward to 10 years later, I have come a long way in my self-development journey. There were personal things I had to take care of. But most importantly, I managed to transform the beliefs and limitations in my own mind. Through seeking help, I was able to take the edge of my perfectionism that has been weighing me down like a ton of bricks. In the same way, I worked hard to become a much better communicator, something that never came naturally to me as an introvert. I spent so much time outside of my comfort zone that it had to catch up with my progress eventually and grow! :-)

In the meantime, as a leadership coach and trainer, I have realised my passion for people development. I enjoy most working with leaders who are passionate about building healthy teams and help others grow. Leaders who understand that people management is not just something you do on the side but a profession in its own right. Leaders who ultimately wish to have a significant impact on others and their organisation.
